THE SALZBURGER HEIMATWERK

Our mission statement

Present day traditions

Salzburger Heimatwerk is a cooperative that functions as both a commercial and cultural institution, with its origins dating back to 1946. Since then, we have considered it our duty to promote the folk and everyday cultural traditions and expressions of our region. We focus our activities on preserving, cultivating and further developing traditional crafts, dress, customs and music.

When you enter the Salzburger Heimatwerk, you’ll sense the special energy that comes from the beautiful combination of living tradition and visionary design. We provide a platform for local arts and crafts, demonstrate our expertise in traditional clothing and showcase a wide range of literature, music and culinary delights, giving visitors a true flavor of our beautiful province of Salzburg. We choose our products with great care and attention to detail. You will still find regional treasures that have been lovingly crafted here, mostly by hand. Our dedicated and friendly staff are looking forward to your visit and will be happy to assist you with their expertise!

The three most important Heimatwerk principles: quality, authenticity, and sustainability

Cultural institution

For the common good

Unlike other institutions, we do not claim public funding for our diverse cultural activities; we generate these funds exclusively through our own entrepreneurial activities. Therefore, a positive balance sheet is a prerequisite for achieving the goals set out for a non-profit cooperative. Sales and profits are not an end in themselves. Instead, they are a measure of the cultural and economic significance of the company in society. By the way: No dividends are paid to the Salzburger Heimatwerk cooperative members; all income is invested in cultural activities.

We are honoured that, in 1996, we were granted the right to bear the coat of arms of the Province of Salzburg. This was in recognition of our decades of service as a traditional and cultural institution, as well as a commercial and industrial establishment that benefits the general public. The Salzburger Heimatwerk is a member of the non-profit association umbrella organisation “Kuratorium Österreichisches Heimatwerk”, founded in 1952. The organisation’s goal is to promote folk and everyday culture. The Austrian Heimatwerke Board of Trustees is also a member of the Association of European Heimatwerke, which is a network of institutions like its own throughout Europe.

Competent and committed

Cultural institution

At the Salzburger Heimatwerk, we believe that strong teamwork and mutual respect are the key to a successful collaboration. That’s why we actively work to create a pleasant working environment! Our employees have found their work home here, with some having been with us for decades. This philosophy is also well received by our younger employees and motivates them to show great commitment every day.

There is one thing that connects us all: our love of our profession, our enthusiasm for traditional dress and handicrafts, and our shared goal of providing our customers with an enjoyable shopping experience and expert advice.
